Luke 9 tells the story of the Transfiguration, when Jesus is revealed for who he is: God breaking into time and space in an unexpected way. Jesus has taken three of his disciples up a mountain to pray. There, his face is changed and he shines with the blinding light of Heaven. God speaks, naming Jesus as God's son and exhorting his followers to listen to him. After the mysterious experience fades, they head back down the mountain to face the noise, confusion, and illness of the crowds who wait there. Jesus continues his work of healing and teaching, showing us that God doesn't stay away from our brokenness, but enters our world to bring us life and holy freedom.
This time of prayer is offered as a micro-retreat for a day when the human family is suffering and, in some places, seems to have descended into chaos. Set aside ten minutes to join prayerfully in this story.
