The Beatitudes -- eight "blessed are the ones who..." statements in Matthew 5 -- reveal something of the values of the Kingdom of God. These astonishing teachings may at first sound odd to our ears, but that's just because they are so out of sync with what we usually consider important.
In the Beatitudes, Jesus describes a process of emptying all that stands between us and God, so that we can centre ourselves on him and bear witness to God's healing grace.
